At the Society’s Annual General Meeting on 28th April 2015, Woodland Trust’s Regional Development Manager John Brown gave the Society an update on progress towards developing the Langley Vale Centenary Wood. Work on the initial ecological surveys is complete, although surveying will be ongoing for some years. Plans are being prepared for a small visitor centre, which will require planning permission . Areas of wildflower meadow will be developed, trees planted with some paths available for wheelchair and buggy access; there will be a memorial area, but plans for this are at a very early stage. Paths will be established throughout the 680 acre site, including designated cycle and riding paths. Tree planting was started in December 2014, with further work to be scheduled in the winter of 2015/2016.

Fundraising to pay for the developments and planting continues, and at the end of the meeting the Society was pleased to present Mr Brown a cheque for £2000 towards the Centenary Woodland fund.
