19/00369/LBA Renovation and repair of Clunch Wall to East Boundary along Woodcote End.
The boundary wall of the Durdans Stables along Woodcote End is one of the major historic walls in Epsom and is one of the last remaining clunch walls in the whole of England. It is positioned within the Chalk Lane Conservation Area and provides one of the key features for this beautiful location.
The Society fully supports this application to renovate and repair such an important feature using appropriate materials and methods. However, we note that previous attempts have been unsatisfactory and used inappropriate materials.
The Society has provided photographic evidence of the result of previous works, and suggested that a sample/mock up area is initially completed and that the works are fully checked against an agreed specification. Upon approval, the main works could thereafter be completed.
