Demolition of existing Comrades Club facility and erection of new four-storey building comprising a 57-bed hotel with ancillary restaurant/bar and new Comrades Club facilities.

This application is very similar to one by Travelodge which was refused and dismissed on appeal solely on the grounds that documents had not been completed. However, the new applicants (Premier Inn) have adapted their design to reflect many of the objections the Society raised on the previous application, although we still believe the bulk and height are excessive.

We have suggested that conditions be made to ensure that guest traffic and parking problems are minimised, and queried the bricks to be used on one end wall, but have raised no major objections to the proposal.
