26/00367/FUL Installation of 1No. internally illuminated multifunction communication hub including a defibrillator, digital LCD advertisement display and interactive touch screen
This is another application for an advertising display in Epsom. The Society has objected to this one in the same way as previously, via the Comments facility on the EEBC Planning website as follows:-
“This comment is on behalf of Epsom Civic Society (ECS).
This is a further application for a communication hub in Epsom Town Centre within the conservation area which is not welcomed or necessary. It follows a series of applications with decisions to refuse and all dismissed at appeal, bar the one outside the Station. These were all within the past six months. In this short time there has been no change in circumstances to take a different view.
As was commented before regarding this type of hub there were four broad categories of objection:-
1. The proposal is unnecessary.
2. Would be a distraction to road riders and drivers who need to give full concentration to being in control of their moving vehicle at this particularly heavily trafficked and pedestrian crossing location.
3. An impediment to pedestrians on the pavement at a busy part of the town centre and unhelpful to people with sight and vision disability residing in a nearby by special residential home.
4. At odds with the thrust of the recent Town Centre Masterplan which won an RIBA award for its proposals, in that clutter should be removed to provide a more attractive place to visit. The masterplan document was submitted as part of the Local Plan documents currently at examination stage.
ECS request refusal.”
