25/00558/CNA Demolition of existing stables and barn and erection of 4 x new build dwellings.
This application, arising as a consultation on an application submitted to a neighbouring Planning Authority, is essentially for the development of four houses in the Green Belt. The Society would normally object to such a development, but in this case are dependent on EEBC responding appropriately on behalf of the residents of Epsom and Ewell, and has responded to the application using the Comments facility on the EEBC Planning website. The text of our response follows:-
“This comment is submitted on behalf of Epsom Civic Society (ECS).
The application site abuts Epsom Common originally designated (2000 Local Plan) as a site of significant local importance within the Green Belt. Nothing has changed. This site remains an open space gem in the Borough and possibly even more so.
For appearance and practical purposes the application site continues the theme and appearance leaving the Borough of a swath of good and important Green Belt, performing well and providing a separation before the village of Malden Rushett. ECS urges EEBC to respond to the consultation in the strongest terms about this site being entirely inappropriate for the residential development being applied for.
There appears to be a valid case that the reasons for the recent appeal decision refusal at Marsden Nursery Ashtead, similarly for housing in the the Green Belt and adjoining the Borough, are relevant here also.”
