22/01294/FUL Demolition of existing building and construction of a new part 5 and part 6 storey building containing 20 residential units and associated development.
Following refusal of two previous applications, to both of which the Society objected, a smaller, revised scheme is now proposed.
While this is clearly an improvement on the earlier schemes, there are still a number of matters of concern. Primarily, the Society objects to the visual impact on the Town Centre and adjacent Stamford Gren Conservation Areas arising from the building height and high level glass cladding, together with the loss of an important heritage building in the Town Centre.
Other issues relate to difficulties relating to the construction process of the proposed development, on a traffic sensitive site also adjacent to a railway embankment, and sustainability inadequacies in the proposal. Further concerns regarding the proposed layby and its impact on traffic, pedestrians and cyclists are still under review, and the Society anticipates a further letter of objection on completion of the review.
See our objection letter here.
The Society has now sent a second letter requesting refusal, highlighting the impact of the proposed use of highway and footway space to make the development feasible and the consequent negative impact on traffic, cyclists and pedestrians.
See our second letter here.
