20/00249/FUL Erection of a multi storey car park comprising ground plus 5 storeys and 527 car parking spaces, reconfiguration of surface parking to provide 104 car parking spaces and improvement to the access road from Dorking Road.
Despite amendments the second application for this multi-storey car park on the hospital site was finally refused in June 2021, but has now been appealed. The Society has written at length to the Inspectorate to support the Planning Committee’s decision to refuse and update our objections to the proposal in the light of the granting on Appeal of permission to Guild Living on the rear part of the hospital site.
The essence of the Society’s objections, supported by EEBC in their letter of refusal to the applicant, is that the proposed building is too tall and bulky, and would create serious harm to the locality, including the adjacent Conservation Area and other heritage assets. In addition, the creation of 600 plus car spaces at the hospital would run counter to the National, County and EEBC climate change policies to reduce carbon emissions from private car usage.
The Society fully supports the protection of our Conservation Areas, green space and the local sports club amenities, and have accordingly asked for the Appeal to be dismissed.
