19/01365/FUL Demolition of existing houses and erection of a part two, part three storey building with rooms in the roof and basement providing 20 flats. Basement parking for cars and cycles. Bins stores and associated hard and soft landscaping including new boundary walls and railings.
The Society believes that wholesale redevelopment along Dorking Road would not be welcomed and any approved development on this site should not set a precedent for the area as a whole, which contains a number of listed buildings and consists almost exclusively of two storey detached and semi-detached dwellings with pitched roofs, in contrast with the proposed three storey blocks of flats.
In addition, the proposal seems to be over-development, providing both insufficient parking to meet current policies and, more significantly, no affordable housing whatsoever.
Finally, the design is far too boxy and bland, seemingly lacking any architectural interest or merit.
For all these reasons the Society recommends refusal of the application. See our letter here.
