17/01209/FUL Erection of a three-storey building on land adjacent to public house building to provide 8 self-contained flats (3x1bed, 3×2 bed 2×3 bed) and associated hard and soft landscaping, car and cycle parking and refuse store and the demolition of a single storey annexe extension to Kings Arms Public House
The Kings Arms public house has changed hands several times and has now been vacant for several years. The present proposal is to develop its adjoining car park and its rear garden with a three-storey building containing 8 self-contained flats.
Although the Society has no objection in principle to the proposal, a number of matters of detail, including a pitched roof design, and retention of car parking for the public house itself if reopened, need careful consideration. Our main concern, however, is the future of the public house itself. A number of attempts have been made in recent years to make it a viable concern, but the loss of both garden and parking facilities will not improve its viability. We have suggested that a realistic comprehensive assessment of the whole site would be desirable before a piecemeal development is considered.
